Life-Flarex highlighted by its great impact at the legislative level

EASME, the Executive Agency for Small and Medium Enterprises of the European Commission, organized a meeting to initiate all the projects co-financed by the Life + program during 2016 (Life16). AEI Tèxtils, as coordinator of the Life-Flarex project, participated in the meeting together with Leitat, partner of the project.

The kick-off meeting of the Life16 program took place at the MCE Conference & Business Center in Brussels, on 17 and 18 October.

The meeting consisted of presentations by EASME on the topics for the implementation of the Life program such as the relevance at the legislative level, the sustainability of the project and operational aspects: justifications, finances, communication and external evaluation by the company NEEMO. All the projects co-financed by the Life + program participated in the event. The Life-Flarex project presented its objectives, its involvement at the legislative level and its long-term projection.

EASME highlighted Life-Flarex as the best project in terms of legislative impact in the session on Air and Health of the Life16 program. The objective of Life-Flarex is to reduce the impact on the environment, health and safety of the current flame retardants that are used in the textile sector, and their future alternatives, analyzing their environmental impact and their functionalities in order to promote the substitution between the manufacturers identifying which are the best available technologies, both in terms of benefits and sustainability.

The project coordinator is the AEI Tèxtils, the Catalan cluster of technical textiles. The consortium is completed with six more partners: two research institutes / Spanish technology centers: Leitat and the Advanced Chemistry Institute of Catalonia (CSIC), the Belgian textile research center Centexbel and three clusters of technical textiles: Ateval de España, Pointex from Italy and Clutex from the Czech Republic.Life-Flarex is co-financed by the LIFE + program of the European Commission, within the Environment Policy and Governance line, with Grant Agreement number LIFE16 ENV / ES / 000374. The Project started on July 1, lasts for 3 years and has a total budget of € 1,163,879.
