Superconductors can provide a greener way to transport energy but are expensive to make and maintain. The EUROTAPES project, in which LEITAT participates, has developed a way to ‘print’ the superconducting tapes that form power cables, reducing costs and opening the way to their wider use by industry.

The European Commission has published an article about the EUROTAPES project  on the Horizon 2020 website

During the rest of the project, which ends in February 2017, the team is investigating industrial applications of the materials and techniques. We plan to simplify manufacturing methods, find the best conductor for each application and build visual systems for controlling production. By the end of the project we hope to make tapes that are 500 metres long to show industry that the concept has practical potential.
