Obtaining Deep Eutectic Solvents through recovery of industrial waste and its application in the purification of biogas obtained in WWTPs

ABSTRACT

This project will study the feasibility of using certain industrial effluents managed by DAM to produce eutectic solvents (Deep Eutectic Solvents-DES) suitable for the purification or cleaning of biogas produced in WWTPs (Upgrading). This new process is part of a global philosophy that promotes the circular economy in the company, as well as waste management and utilization. In this project a component of an industrial waste will be used to produce DES that are capable of purifying the biogas produced in the WWTPs (CO2 Capture), closing a cycle where the CO2 emission is reduced to zero, giving added value as is the generation of a purer biogas. The DES formed can be a very active and selective biodegradable solvent with the potential to capture CO2 through the chemical absorption process. Within the phases of the project, the environmental and operational conditions that will allow obtaining maximum yields in terms of CO2 capture will also be studied. For this, it is planned to evaluate the adsorption capacity of the new solvent, using synthetic biogas and real biogas from an anaerobic digestion plant.
