ECOLABEL LUBRICANTS

Support for the Revision of EU Ecolabel Criteria for the Product Group “Lubricants”

ABSTRACT

Through a public tender, the European Commission has selected LEITAT as the entity responsible for reviewing the criteria of the European Ecolabel for lubricants. The European Ecolabel is a voluntary scheme that aims to promote products and services with a reduced environmental impact during their entire life cycle and to provide consumers with accurate, non-deceptive and scientifically based information on the environmental impact.

In 2011, the Commission already commissioned LEITAT to review EU Ecolabel criteria and Green Procurement for soaps, shampoos and hair conditioners and in 2012 the review for the furniture category. This is the third contract of its kind to be awarded to LEITAT.

This contract has a duration of 26 months. During the execution of the project, in addition to the technical work, LEITAT must be in constant contact with the Commission, groups of experts, producers of lubricants and related products, research centres, third sector organisations and associations across Europe to share with them the progress.
