Leitat, Gencat, and TEXFOR join forces to promote textile sustainability in Catalonia with the SOLSTICE
Leitat hosted a key meeting between representatives of the Gencat and TEXFOR, the Textile Industry Confederation. The purpose of the meeting was to advance the implementation of the European SOLSTICE project, which seeks to transform the textile industry towards a more sustainable and circular model.
During the visit, the details of the pilot project to be developed in Catalonia were outlined, focusing on the “7 Rs” of textile sustainability: redesign, reduce, reuse, repair, refurbish, recover, and recycle. This pilot aims to serve as a practical example of how to apply these principles in the production and consumption of textiles in the region.
The SOLSTICE project presents a unique opportunity to demonstrate the viability and benefits of the circular economy in this strategic sector.
The visit included a tour of Leitat’s facilities related to the project, where innovative technologies are being developed for the treatment of textile waste, the design of new materials, and the improvement of energy efficiency in production processes.
With this meeting, Leitat, the Gencat, and TEXFOR take an important step towards a more sustainable future for the Catalan textile industry, working together to make Catalonia a European benchmark in the implementation of the circular economy in this sector.
